Any patient on haemodialysis who is stable and not requiring emergency treatment during the dialysis session. Hence most patients who attend the hospital for haemodialysis are considered suitable candidates for home dialysis.
Dialysis procedure on a whole is safe for patients. In many countries patients perform dialysis at their home all by themselves. Home dialysis only substitutes the place where dialysis procedure is being conducted. Instead of the hospital it is your home.
It can be done in any room of your liking. We need a relatively spacious environment to place the machines closer to water source and drain. The patient needs to feel comfortable wherever he or she would like to be dialysed. Often patient choose their bedrooms, some the living rooms and in bigger homes the out house.
No. The machines are kept in your house. They are not mixed with other patients. This keeps infection control to a minimum and ensures hygiene.
No. The machines are the property of Dialysis Centre and only leased for your use. We will need a small security which will be adjusted in the cost of dialysis.
As home dialysis saves precious time of patient and family not to mention the lost work hours of relatives duty bound to transport and accompany the patient plus the cost of travel and food, home dialysis is economical. Location and availability of staff depends upon the distance covered. Hence cost of session is determined on individual basis. Still it is economical on cost to work basis.
We trust the house hold with the safety of our equipment as it is there for a delicate job. Proper storage in a safe area away from harm is requested. If there is a technical fault in the machines they will be repaired or replace at earliest so that regularity of dialysis is not hampered. We have backup machines in such situations.
We have designated staff who are experienced in not only hospital dialysis but home dialysis as well. Staff are trained to handle all kinds of dialysis access and complications. In case a problem arises during the procedure which is out of the ordinary, our second tier senior staff are there for immediate guidance.
Our doctor can visit the home of the patient for checkup and provide prescriptions. If necessary a video consultation can be arranged with the Senior Consultant. Please note doctors consultation whether at home or by video are charged extra.
The dialysis technician upon starting a session sends a video message to our base with particulars of the machine, start time and parameters set. This way we the staff at the hospital also know about the session in process. Contact is maintained throughout the sessions. At the end of the session, the end parameters are again video messaged to the base.
